Rancho RS9000X Installation - Part II

This is a pictorial version of the installation that I did on my Tacoma. It is a record of my own personal experience and is NOT intended to be a replacement for the manufacturers installation instructions.

These are the Energy Suspension bushings that you will need to fit the Tacoma shock mounts. (Click on photo for a larger picture of the package.)
Here is the Energy Suspension polyurethane bushing installed on the Rancho RS9000X. I noticed the red colored bushings are polyurethane, while the black Energy Suspension bushings that I had used on the Bilsteins seem to be a softer rubber compound, and are easier to work with. When I installed the spacer modification with these shocks, I could not get the red bushing to work on the passenger side-upper mount, so I had to switch it out for a black bushing instead.

After replacing the Rancho bushings with the Tacoma replacements, I was ready to mount the shocks utilizing the spacer modification. For this modification, you will need the following parts:

(4) M12 - 1.25 x 35mm cap screws (metric size bolts)
(16) 3/4" Inside diameter (I.D.) Flat Washers
(4) Drill bushings that are 3/4" O.D. x 1/2" I.D. x 5/8" long

The drill bushings and bolts can be ordered from McMaster-Carr (562) 692-5911. Drill bushing, part # 8491 A442 and Hex head cap screw, part # 91180 A718. The flat washers can be purchased at a local hardware store. Try to pick out washers that have the same approximate thickness, as they may vary. The drill bushings are pictured at the right.

The drill bushings are to be installed inside the shock bushings (one drill bushing per each shock bushing). They act as a spacer which you will see explained on the next page.
